The WU-TE AKADEMIE offers the Filipino martial art SERRADA ESCRIMA (SerCuerdas). The origins of this martial art lie in real life-and-death combat. Today, it is considered one of the most effective self-defense systems in existence.
In SERRADA ESCRIMA, the primary goal is to let the opponent come to you instead of blindly rushing into the attack. The MEDIO DISTANCE plays the most important role here.
1. Larga (long distance)
2. Medio (medium distance)
3. Corto (close distance)
The classification primarily serves the purpose of structuring learning. We offer group lessons (only at Wiesbaden) personal coaching, online training, Seminars and Workshops worldwide.

Grandmaster Angel Cabales
the founder
Angel Ovalles Cabales was born in 1917 on the island of Visaya, in the south-central Philippines. He learned the short-range stick fighting system from his master and friend Felicissimo Dizon. In 1962, Master Cabales founded the first Escrima Academy in Stockton, California. He always welcomed guests to his school and never turned away a student. He was known as the “Father of Escrima” in the USA.
The origin of the name “SERRADA ESCRIMA”
At first, Angel Cabales did not have a name for his system. When he began teaching publicly in 1962, Max Sarmiento (a friend and student, master of Cadena de Mano) told him that people in the US needed a name so that they could identify with the art and distinguish it from others. Angel thought about it and after some time decided to call his art “Serrada Escrima” (Serrada = closing), as he preferred to fight at a very close distance to his opponent, i.e., closed.

JC Cabiero
(Student of Angel Cabales)
my Meister
Master Cabiero was trained by Angel Cabales, who introduced Filipino martial arts to the United States in 1962 and is known worldwide as the “Father of Escrima.” JC Cabiero was personally trained by GM Angel Cabales for 14 years (1972-1986). The two remained close until GM Angel Cabales passed away in 1991. GM Angel Cabales honored JC Cabiero with recognition and the title of Master in 1979, the 4th Master's Diploma, the first ever awarded outside the Cabales family.
Master JC Cabiero has written several books. One is titled “The Pure Art of Cabales Serrada Escrima.”
Master JC Cabiero has decided to pass on the art of Angel Cabales under the name “SerCuerdas.” Two of the most important reasons for this are:
1. There are many who use the name “Serrada Escrima” but have changed much of what Angel Cabales taught, omit certain elements, or add others. Master JC believes that a complete/holistic martial art such as Serrada Escrima, as he learned it from Angel Cabales, needs neither modification nor the addition of other elements!
2. With the name “SerCuerdas,” he wants to honor his master Angel Cabales (Ser. for Serrada) and his master Felicisimo Dizon (Cuerdas for DeCuerdas).

Mukatder Gül Ph.D.
Mukatder Gül has been learning Serrada Escrima since 1996. He first came into contact with Master JC Cabiero in 1998 and has been training under Master JC in the “Pure Art of Serrada Escrima ng Angel Cabales,” or SerCuerdas Escrima, ever since. M. Gül is Master JC's only student and representative in Europe. Sifu Gül is tasked with spreading and teaching the art of Angel Cabales in Europe.
In 2014, Dr. Gül wrote his dissertation on “Burnout and Stress Management” and received the title “Doctor of Philosophy and Psychology” MAE/OIU-DC.
As head and founder of the Wu-Te Academy, he helps people all over the world learn martial arts and stay healthy and successful.
